Konawe – Dozens of employees of mining companies PT Virtue Dragon Nickel Industry (PT VDNI) and PT Obsidian Stainless Steel (PT OSS) Morosi in Konawe Regency, Southeast Sulawesi, Indonesia, held a demonstration on Thursday, February 20, 2025, demanding a salary increase.
The action was triggered by the lack of commitment or consistency from the company, which promised a 6.5% salary increase for employees in January.
According to information gathered by (link unavailable) journalists, the company had promised a salary increase in January 2025. However, until now, there has been no realization of that promise.
“If I’m not mistaken, we were promised a 6.5% salary increase. But until now, there’s no sign of it. That’s why we, the employees, who are part of the organization, agreed to hold a demonstration,” said one employee who declined to be named.
He also stated that the action was not only demanding a salary increase but also regretting the company’s policy of cutting salaries for employees who were given SP sanctions, including SP1, SP2, and SP3.
“We are disappointed with the company’s policy of not fulfilling its promise of a salary increase. Moreover, we also regret the policy of cutting salaries, which burdens the employees,” said the employee.
The demonstration took place in front of the company’s entrance gate, which was guarded by security personnel. The employees of PT VDNI and PT OSS hope that this action will gain attention from the company and the government to fulfill their demands.
Until now, there has been no official response from the company regarding the demonstration. (*)
